2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint Aubin Les Murgers des Dents de Chien

Henri Prudhon et Fils was founded in Saint-Aubin in the 1940s when Henri Prudhon, the son of a winemaker, started his own estate. Today the 35-acre estate is run by his grandsons, Vincent and Philippe Prudhon. Domaine Henri Prudhon makes many Premier Crus, nearly all Chardonnay. The Premier Cru are primarily from Saint-Aubin, though there are also Premier Cru Chardonnays from parcels in Puligny Montrachet and Chassange Montrachet. The domaine produces one Saint-Aubin red Premier Cru and villages wines. Wine Advocate has called Henri Prudhon “one of the stars of the village of Saint Aubin.”

Les Murgers des Dents de Chien is a 39.5-acre Premier Cru vineyard in the Saint-Aubin appellation, in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. Saint-Aubin has no Grand Crus, but there are 29 Premier Crus planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Les Murgers des Dents de Chien is on the eastern edge of the appellation and borders Puligny-Montrachet. Wine writers note that although the appellation of Saint-Aubin was in the past typically not given much attention by wine collectors, in recent decades it has been increasingly noted for the high quality of its wines.

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
