RATINGS

98The Wine Advocate

...notes of waxy citrus zest, white flowers, nutmeg and wet stones, followed by a full-bodied, racy and electric palate, with a satiny attack that segues into a deep, seamless mid-palate. Chiseled and concentrated, uniting texture and tension, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish.

97Wine Spectator

Opulent and mouthfilling, this is a powerful white, with lemon oil, sweet corn, peach, apple tart, stone and toasty oak flavors that resonate and build to the long, intense aftertaste.

97Vinous / IWC

...terse, mineral, flinty bouquet with touches of powdered chalk coming through with time, later a Crustacea note...palate is very poised on the entry with a twist of sour lemon, crisp acidity, tensile with a vibrant and quite nervous finish that lingers in the mouth with a spicy aftertaste.

18.5Jancis Robinson

Pure, linear and lofty. Great concentration with citrus and a leesy weight.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet

Chevalier-Montrachet is one of the four justly famous Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet appellation in Burgundy. The 18-acre vineyard is located up the slope from Le Montrachet and shares Le Montrachet’s excellent southern exposure, though Chevalier-Montrachet’s soil is considerably thinner and more rocky. Burgundy writer Clive Coates has noted that Chevalier-Montrachet is “full, firm” and has “a great deal of depth and elegance.” The largest landholders are Bouchard Pere et Fils, 7.5 acres; Leflaive, 4 acres; and Louis Jadot, 1.5 acres.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, Grand Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
