96Vinous / IWC

...intense bouquet of black fruit with veins of blueberry, infused with crushed rock and rose petal. Full of tension, this is classic Ruchottes. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, and lightly spiced, displaying an unerring sense of symmetry toward the saline finish.

95-97The Wine Advocate

...exuberant bouquet of cherries, raspberries, blood orange, espresso roast, dark chocolate and nicely integrated new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, velvety and supple, with almost melting tannins that are entirely cloaked in rich but lively fruit and concluding with a beautifully defined finish.

The sleek, intense and attractively textured broad-shouldered flavors possess focused power while the lingering and youthfully austere finish offers excellent depth.

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Gevrey-Chambertin, Ruchottes-Chambertin

Ruchottes-Chambertin is an 8.1-acre Grand Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin. Located just north of Mazis-Chambertin, the soil is thin and rocky and the slope is steep. In fact the name Ruchottes comes from “rochers,” or rocks. The principal proprietors are Armand Rousseau, 2.5 acres; Mugneret-Gibourg, 1.6 acres; and Frederic Esmonin, 1.45 acres. Fewer than 1,000 cases of wine are produced annually from this vineyard.

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
