RATINGS

96Wine Enthusiast

Aromas of crushed rosebuds and carnations mix with intense raspberry and a touch of eucalyptus on the nose... It's fresh and lively on the palate, with a pristine raspberry flavors that's enhanced by touches of wild thyme and sage.

92Wine Spectator

Pure and focused, featuring well-structured red currant, raspberry and plum flavors. Crisp midpalate, with a velvety finish that is vibrant and filled slate and crushed stone notes.

92Vinous / IWC

A wildly complex bouquet evokes ripe red berries, cherry-cola, pungent cannabis, potpourri and oak spices. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering intense, Chambord, cherry-vanilla, spicecake and succulent herb flavors... Shows excellent clarity and spicy lift on a long, smooth finish that's framed by velvety, even tannins.

90Burghound.com

The intricately layered nose is composed of red berries, spice, red pinot fruit and discreet wisps of dark currant. The full bodied, muscular and vigorous middle-weight flavors terminate in a lengthy finale that displays some austerity as well as hint of acid tang...

REGION

United States, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

Santa Lucia Highlands AVA is a 12-mile long, narrow strip of an appellation wedged along the eastern hillsides of the Santa Lucia mountain range. Given its proximity to Big Sur and the Gabilan Mountain Range to the northeast, Santa Lucia a cool-climate wine growing district. Morning sun is often followed by maritime winds and fog in the afternoon, a weather pattern that prolongs the growing season and means long, gentle ripening of the grapes. Spanish missionaries planted vineyards in the district in the 18th century, but it wasn’t until the 1970s that modern winemakers planted vineyards and began making high quality wine. The district received AVA status in 1991 and today there are 6,000 vineyard acres in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Pinot Noir is the dominant grape planted, followed by Chardonnay and Riesling.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir
