95+ The Wine Advocate

...nose of peppercorn, tobacco, dried tea leaves, bergamot and bitter citrus peel over a red and black fruit core. Light to medium-bodied, it gives wonderful concentration and layers in the mouth—fruit, earth and spice are all here—with very fine, grainy tannins and a very energetic, almost buzzing, long and layered finish.

94Wine Spectator

A firm, elegant, pure-tasting style, with dark currant and plum tart flavors that are supported by crisp acidity. Hints of tangerine and dried sage show on the finish.

94+ Vinous / IWC

Rich and explosive, with plenty of fruit, the Block 8 also has plenty of supporting structure to wrap all the elements together.

90Wine Enthusiast

Stemmy, earthy and brimming in black tea, this is a quite savory, dense and meaty red wine, made in an elegant style with understated ripeness. Elements of crushed rock give it a mineral edginess that accentuates the acidity and note of saline around wild strawberry and rhubarb.

United States, California, Sonoma, Sonoma Coast

Sonoma Coast AVA runs from San Pablo Bay in the south to Mendocino County in the north. It includes 7,000 vineyard acres and earned AVA status in 1987. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean means it gets double the rainfall of nearby inland appellations and the ocean gives the appellation a relatively cool climate. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can thrive in these conditions, and there are numerous producers making critically acclaimed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
