RATINGS

97Wine Enthusiast

A perennial knockout, this wine combines vineyard sites from its namesake Westside Road. Flavors of smoke, strawberry, forest floor and black tea accent a velvety, lush palate, ending with a fresh, savory edge.

95Jeb Dunnuck

Spice cherries, wild strawberries, and crushed violets, notes, as well as plenty of spice, all emerge...medium-bodied, has a wonderful sense of purity and ripe fruit, ultra-fine tannins, a weightless texture, and a great finish. This is incredibly classy and one of the more ethereal, elegant, and seamless wines...

94Vinous / IWC

... Medium in body yet also quite deep and resonant...succulent and inviting... Black cherry, plum, violet and cloves all add to the wine's dark-ish leaning flavor profile.

93+ The Wine Advocate

...very pretty violet, dried flowers and bitter citrus peel scents with blueberry, warm blackberries, nutmeg, dried black tea leaves and autumn leaves aromas. It's light to medium-bodied with a good core of fruit framed by soft, grainy tannins and juicy acidity, finishing spicy.

93James Suckling

... Wild raspberries and red cherries on offer, as well as such attractively defined, spicy aromas. The palate has a smooth and fleshy feel with great depth and density and the fruit flesh is very supple. This sits up very fresh and juicy.

92Wine Spectator

Concentrated dark cherry, plum and raspberry tart flavors are creamy and rich-tasting. Plush midpalate, with a lusciously spicy finish that is filled with cocoa powder and Asian spice notes.

90Burghound.com

...there is a whiff of tar character to the cool menthol, spice and essence of red pinot fruit-suffused nose. The succulent, delicious and rounded medium-bodied flavors possess reasonably good mid-palate density before concluding in a dusty, intense and ever-so-slightly drying finish...the complexity is impressive...

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley

Russian River Valley AVA is named for the river that meanders from Mendocino County in the north until it finally runs into the Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco. The AVA is cool thanks to its proximity to the northern California coast and the river, and grape growers must learn to deal with regular fog. Nevertheless in recent decades the AVA has become one of the best in the state, meaning that its wines often earn excellent reviews and have considerable cachet. The AVA status was awarded in 1983 and today the appellation has 15,000 vineyard acres. Chardonnay is the most widely planted grape though Pinot Noir has also been very successful in recent decades. Russian River Valley Pinot Noir are known for being rich, lush and filled with concentrated fruit and berry flavors. Russian River Pinot Noirs are today considered some of the best domestic Pinot Noirs.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir
