RATINGS

98The Wine Advocate

… seriously earthy notions of tilled black soil, mossy tree bark, morels and wet pebbles over a black-fruited core of cassis, freshly crushed blackberries and warm plums plus touches of unsmoked cigars and fallen leaves. Full-bodied and packed to the gills with complex mineral, earth and black fruit layers, it has a rock-solid structure of firm, ripe, fine-grained tannins...

98Jeb Dunnuck

...bouquet of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, damp earth, and chocolate...rich, powerful wine that never seems over the top and has perfect balance, polished tannin, and a great, great finish.

92Vinous / IWC

… racy, silky and perfumed, with plenty of the lift... Sweet red cherry and raspberry jam, wild flowers, mocha, spice and white chocolate open up in the glass. Open-knit, silky and radiant, with striking lushness...

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena, Dr. Crane Vineyard

Dr. Crane Vineyard was originally planted in 1858 by Napa Valley pioneer Dr. George Belden Crane. It was acquired by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1997. Located in the city of St. Helena, the 25-acre vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Beckstoffer Vineyards owns and farms more than 3,600 acres of highly prestigious grape growing vineyards in Napa Valley, Mendocino County and the Red Hills of Lake County. A senior executive with Heublein in the 1960s, Andy Beckstoffer is credited with steering Napa Valley vintners towards improving farming and the quality of the grapes used for wine. Grapes from any Beckstoffer vineyards are considered among the finest available in California.
