RATINGS

95James Suckling

An aromatic wine with granite and dark-berry character. Quartz, too. Full-bodied and dense, yet agile. Layered and focused. A fantastic wine. Grenache, mouvedre and syrah. Impressive texture and balance. So in harmony.

94Wine Spectator

Plush, polished and well-knit, with vibrant blackberry, crushed stone, smoky meat and pepper details that build momentum and richness toward the long finish.

93+ Vinous / IWC

Dense, powerful and explosive...captures both the intensity of this hillside site and the very small berries of 2015.

93Jeb Dunnuck

...exotic bouquet of blueberries, crushed flowers, spiced meats, and earth...terrific purity of fruit, a distinct minerality, no hard edges...

REGION

United States, California, Sierra Foothills, Amador County

Sierra Foothills AVA is in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and it includes parts of eight counties. With total acreage of 2.6 million acres, and nearly 6,000 vineyard acres, it is one of the largest appellations in California. Wine grapes were planted in the foothills during the Gold Rush in the mid-19th century and the appellation was officially recognized in 1987. There are five sub-appellations within the Sierra Foothills region, and more than 100 wineries, most small and family-owned. Zinfandel is the most successful wine grape in this region, though Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are also planted.
