RATINGS

98Robert M. Parker Jr.

... extraordinary nose of graphite, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, forest floor and spring flora. The wine hits the palate with a full-bodied richness, stunning purity and an absolutely magnificent texture and length....

98Jeb Dunnuck

...flirts with perfection and reminds me a little of some of the old school Napa Cabernets with its classic bouquet of blackcurrants, cedarwood, unsmoked tobacco, and flowery incense notes. Aging gracefully, it’s starting to show some maturity in its aromatics and is drinking beautifully, especially for a 2013. Nevertheless, its density, mid-palate depth, structure, and balance all promise another 20 years or more of longevity. (March 2020)

93James Suckling

Wet earth, black currant, clove and spice aromas follow through to a full body, velvety tannins and a chewy finish. Big style but shows form and freshness. Give it a couple of year of bottle age to soften.

92Wine Spectator

Brimming with intense, complex flavors, extending from dusty, savory earth to crushed dark berry, blackberry, currant, cassis and black licorice.

92+ Vinous / IWC

...just as delicious from bottle as it was from barrel. Iron, smoke and exotic red-fleshed fruit are all pushed forward. The Georges III offers plenty of nuance and detail to balance the creamy, voluptuous fruit.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford, Georges III Vineyard

Georges III Vineyard was first planted in 1895 by Napa Valley Pioneer Thomas Rutherford. In 1928 it was purchased by Beaulieu founder Georges de Latour, whose winemaker, the famous Andre Tchelistcheff, used the vineyard to make BV’s Rutherford Cabernets. The 300-acre vineyard is in Rutherford and is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Beckstoffer Vineyards owns and farms more than 3,600 acres of highly prestigious grape growing vineyards in Napa Valley, Mendocino County and the Red Hills of Lake County. A senior executive with Heublein in the 1960s, Andy Beckstoffer is credited with steering Napa Valley vintners towards improving farming and the quality of the grapes used for wine. Grapes from any Beckstoffer vineyards are considered among the finest available in California.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
