RATINGS

96Jeb Dunnuck

Gorgeous kirsch, toasted spices, scorched earth, forest floor, and a touch of redcurrants...medium to full-bodied and has a rounded, expansive texture, plenty of structure, and a great finish.

94The Wine Advocate

...touches of gunflint and woodsmoke, segueing to earth, underbrush, bergamot and lilacs with a core of blackberry fruit. The medium-bodied palate opens slowly to floral-tinged flavor layers. It's silky and juicy in the mouth, calling you in for another sip.

94Vinous / IWC

Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch pomegranate, mint, blood orange, kirsch and exotic spice... Sumptuous, bold and flamboyant, the Frei Road is decidedly extroverted in every way. Soft curves and voluptuous fruit add to its exuberant personality.

93Wine Spectator

Plush and rich, with lusciously spiced raspberry and blackberry compote flavors that turn creamy. Hints of paprika and cooking spices emerge on the broad finish.

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Sonoma Coast

Sonoma Coast AVA runs from San Pablo Bay in the south to Mendocino County in the north. It includes 7,000 vineyard acres and earned AVA status in 1987. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean means it gets double the rainfall of nearby inland appellations and the ocean gives the appellation a relatively cool climate. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can thrive in these conditions, and there are numerous producers making critically acclaimed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
