A distinctly earthy nose is also on the timid side though it does eventually offer up notes of poached plum and soft floral wisps. I very much like the texture of the caressing yet refined flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the youthfully austere, firm and compact finish.

Sappy and lightly smoky red fruits on the nose. Quite soft and refined for Pommard on the palate. Supple, plentiful tannins frame sweet strawberry and cherry. The fruit has a floral, lifted edge and this is overall an elegant Pommard with surprising approachability.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Pommard, Les Arvelets

Les Arvelets is a 26-acre Premier Cru vineyard in the Pommard appellation of Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. Since there are no Grand Crus in Pommard, the Premier Crus have special importance. Robert M. Parker Jr. has written that “Pommard at its best is the fullest wine made in the Cote de Beaune.”

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
