RATINGS

97Jeb Dunnuck

...meaty, smoky, classic Rocks yet also reserved style in its ripe blackberry and currant fruits as well as savory herb, pepper, truffle, and leather aromas and flavors...beautiful core of sweet fruit on the palate...medium to full-bodied, with a seamless, incredibly polished mouthfeel, perfect balance, and a great finish.

96The Wine Advocate

...brilliantly seductive nose...floral with hints of smoked pork belly, lavender and dusty plum blossom. Medium to full-bodied...bursts with power and finesse while displaying sensations of umami and subtly spiced savory herbs, dusty flowers and a delightful mineral tension...continues to evolve and unpack in the mouth, revealing a gorgeously long, lingering finish.

96James Suckling

Dried herbs and ground spice waft up, along with aromas of red and black cherries. Medium-to full-bodied with silky, smooth tannins...good energy... Mineral complexity and bright red fruit are in balance, accented by ground cooking spice and dried rose. A total delight.

95Vinous / IWC

...array of violet florals, river stones, sweet smoke, red plums and spiced tangerine... It’s like liquid velvet on the palate without being weighty, with ripe black fruits and pepper-tinged herbal tones that mix to create a push and pull of savory and sweet...finishes incredibly fresh and lightly structured, leaving a resonance of sage-tinged currants and liquid stone.

91Wine Enthusiast

Subdued aromas of olive brine, wet stone, blue fruit and dried herb lead to a lighter styled palate that brings plenty of savory flavors.

REGION

United States, Oregon, Walla Walla Valley

Walla Walla Valley AVA likes to call itself the Napa Valley of Washington, and given the concentration of well-reviewed wineries in the appellation, the comparison is understandable. The Walla Walla appellation is comprised of 340,000 acres, of which 1,200 acres are vineyards. Walla Walla is located in the southeastern corner of Washington and it extends slightly into northeastern Oregon. It is named after the Walla Walla River Valley, and the city of Walla Walla is the commercial center of Washington’s wine industry. The city was founded in the 1840s by the Hudson’s Bay Company as a trading post, but as early as the 1850s farmers were planting grapes for winemaking. Prohibition shuttered winemaking in the early 20th century, but a winemaking renaissance started in the 1970s when Leonetti Cellars, still one of the state’s most acclaimed wineries, started producing acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon. Walla Walla’s AVA status was awarded in 1984 and today there are more than 100 wineries. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most frequently planted grape, followed by Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese Chardonnay and Viognier.

TYPE

Red Wine, Syrah (Shiraz)

This grape is grown in milder climates and produces a medium-to full-bodied wine. It is also known as Shiraz, but should not be confused with Petit Sirah, which was developed by crossing Syrah with Peloursin.
