RATINGS

94Vinous / IWC

...complex bouquet evokes cherry liqueur, cassis, vanilla, pipe tobacco, candied rose and incense. Deep, supple and sweet on the palate, offering expansive black and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that are accented by exotic spice and licorice nuances. Broad and seamless in texture, with discreet tannins lending focus and grip to the impressively persistent finish.

92Wine Spectator

Expressive and richly fragrant, with nutmeg, clove, cigar box and black tea notes and a core of dense huckleberry and plum flavors. The aromas expand on the finish, where a smoky detail gains momentum.

92Wine Enthusiast

...dense and broody, yet multifaceted wine expressing red current, menthol, licorice, cola, black pepper and sweet oak on the nose. The palate is full bodied to be sure but it's clear that this wine is in it for the long haul. Everything is in place, from ultrafine tannins to a silky texture, all held together with plenty of plush fruit and savoriness.

17Jancis Robinson

Minty and lively dark fruit on the nose. A touch medicinal and leafy but no lack of dark fruit. Lovely scent. Chewy and rich but fresh on the palate, real depth of fruit without heaviness and a hint of savoury tar on the finish to add further complexity.

REGION

Australia, South Australia, Clare Valley

South Australia is the nation’s most important wine region. South Australia is to Australia what California is to the U.S. About half of Australia’s wine comes from South Australia and many of the country’s most acclaimed producers are there. Wineries based in South Australia include Penfolds Grange, Torbreck, Amon Ra, Henschke and Jacob’s Creek. The prestigious Barossa Valley is located in South Australia, and is often compared to Napa Valley because it is gorgeous topography covered in grape vines. First farmed by 19th century German-speakers who immigrated from what is now Poland, the Barossa Valley is the crown jewel of the region. South Australia has widely varying climates, from very hot, dry areas to cooler, high altitude areas. There are more than 150,000 acres of vineyards in South Australia, with more being planted each month. Shiraz is king, though the region also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Chardonnay and Semillon.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
