RATINGS

98The Wine Advocate

...erupts from the glass with a firework display of iron ore, lilacs, star anise and sandalwood scents, over a core of blackcurrant jelly, wild blueberries and chocolate-covered cherries, plus a touch of tree bark. Full-bodied, firm and beautifully, seamlessly knit, it delivers layer upon layer of earth and black fruits, finishing very long and fragrant.

96-98Jeb Dunnuck

...shows a classic expression of this terroir with its deep, darker fruits, earth, cold fireplace, graphite, and tobacco-like aromas and flavors. These all carry over to the palate, offering full body, a seamless, elegant texture, polished tannins, and a great finish...

93Wine Spectator

Very lush in feel, with caressing, creamy layers of cassis, plum puree and melted red licorice rolling through easily, gilded on the finish with light sparkles of anise, bramble and shaved vanilla.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena, Dr. Crane Vineyard

Dr. Crane Vineyard was originally planted in 1858 by Napa Valley pioneer Dr. George Belden Crane. It was acquired by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1997. Located in the city of St. Helena, the 25-acre vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Beckstoffer Vineyards owns and farms more than 3,600 acres of highly prestigious grape growing vineyards in Napa Valley, Mendocino County and the Red Hills of Lake County. A senior executive with Heublein in the 1960s, Andy Beckstoffer is credited with steering Napa Valley vintners towards improving farming and the quality of the grapes used for wine. Grapes from any Beckstoffer vineyards are considered among the finest available in California.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
