RATINGS

95-97The Wine Advocate

...a racy beauty bursting with cassis, blackberries, white flowers and licorice. This is an exceptionally deep, dark Chapelle defined by its sheer power and huge, textured richness. Even with all of its size, the tannins remain silky and refined throughout.

95Wine Enthusiast

...rich, powerful wine, with juicy, generous black fruits. The big tannins are right upfront, lending a solid, dense texture. Gentle black fruits and acidity emerge on the finish.

93Wine Spectator

A sleek, well-defined red, sporting pure cherry, raspberry and currant flavors, shaded by oak spice. Balanced and firm, with a lively profile and a long, mouthwatering finish.

93-96Stephen Tanzer

Pristine, primary aromas of cassis, crushed rock, licorice, bitter chocolate and violet. Dense, juicy and intense, with fruity, peppery acidity energizing the seamless but very unevolved middle palate. The extremely long, brisk finish leaves the taste buds vibrating.

93-95Burghound.com

A cool, complex and refined nose juxtaposes notes of plum, dark berry fruit, earth and underbrush before sliding gracefully into intensely mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that possess ripe tannins and outstanding length. This is a wonderfully and almost painfully intense wine where the natural minerality of En Gémeaux is very much front and center in terms of defining its character. In short, this is a balanced and very impressive effort...

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin

Chapelle-Chambertin is a 13.5-acre Grand Cru vineyard just north of Griotte-Chambertin in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. Its name comes from the chapel of Notre Dame de Beze, a chapel built in 1155 by the monks of Abbey de Beze and demolished several centuries later during the French Revolution. There is not much slope in this vineyard, nor much soil. Louis Jadot and Claude Dugat have small parcels here, though the largest landholders are Pierre Damoy, 5 acres; Ponsot 1.7 acres; and Jean and Jean-Louis Trapet, 1.5 acres.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
