RATINGS

99James Suckling

A delightful nose of creme de cassis, hot stones and crushed violets and spices. Full body, chewy and super polished tannins and a long finish... An essay in balance and depth. Best ever.

95Wine Spectator

Sleek and elegant, featuring black currant, violet, iron, licorice, olive, tobacco and spice flavors. Deftly balanced, picking up rosemary, juniper and pine accents as this plays out on the long, cohesive finish.

94The Wine Advocate

...shows a lot of fullness and generosity, with depth. The texture is wonderfully soft and velvety. It has a beautiful richness to it, with notes of chocolate, spice and dark fruit...beaming with warm sunshine from within with integrated tannins and mild freshness.

90Wine Enthusiast

...offers aromas of ripe blackberry, bell pepper and a hint of coconut. The rich palate doles out black-currant jam, licorice and a touch of espresso alongside polished velvety tannins.

REGION

Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri

Bolgheri is a tiny village just inland from the western Tuscan coast with a storybook renaissance castle but no train station. To wine enthusiasts, however, Bolgheri DOC is perhaps Italy’s most exciting wine appellation. It is the cultural heart of the Maremma, the coastal stretch of Tuscany where some of the first Super Tuscans were produced commercially in the late 1960s. Various members of the legendary Antinori wine dynasty and other influential producers established estates in Bolgheri starting in the 1970s, creating such Super Tuscans as Guado Al Tasso and Ornellaia. Bolgheri was awarded DOC status in 1983. Red, white and dessert wines are made in this appellations, and many of the most renowned are the Super Tuscans made from blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and other red varietals. The white wines are blends of Vermentino and Trebbiano. The reds are notable for being blends that have a distinctive Tuscan terroir.
