RATINGS

96The Wine Advocate

... mint, licorice, black cherries and flowers. It is a deep, muscular wine endowed with terrific richness and depth. Crushed rocks, graphite, minerals, smoke and tar are some of the many nuances that emerge... simply dazzling...

94Wine Spectator

Built around roasted coffee, crushed rock, dried currant, mocha and cedar, this packs in a lot of flavors. Well-proportioned and tannic to the point of being chewy, with flavors spilling out on the finish.

94Stephen Tanzer

High-pitched aromas of red- and blackcurrant, Indian spices and potpourri, with hint of vanilla lending depth. Bright and focused on the palate, offering intense dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that expand and gain sweetness with air.

94Wine Enthusiast

This hovers on the verge of overripeness, with a hint of raisin, but it wisely pulls back at the last second into a luscious fortress of blackberry, cassis, chocolate and sweet smoky oak. So smooth and luxurious...

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena, Las Piedras Vineyard

Las Piedras was first planted in the mid-19th century, and within a few years its grapes were being used to make wine by Henry Amstutz, one of the area’s first important winemakers. The 25-acre vineyard in St. Helena was acquired by Beckstoffer in 1983. Today it is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Beckstoffer Vineyards owns and farms more than 3,600 acres of highly prestigious grape growing vineyards in Napa Valley, Mendocino County and the Red Hills of Lake County. A senior executive with Heublein in the 1960s, Andy Beckstoffer is credited with steering Napa Valley vintners towards improving farming and the quality of the grapes used for wine. Grapes from any Beckstoffer vineyards are considered among the finest available in California.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
