RATINGS

95Jeb Dunnuck

...terrific, flowery blue and black fruits, loads of incense, spice, and tobacco, full body, building tannins, and a great, great finish.

92The Wine Advocate

...nose features very dark, serious, broody fruit notions of blackcurrant cordial, boysenberries and mulberries with nuances of cigar box, fungi, fertile loam and pencil lead plus a touch of tar. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a wonderfully plush texture with beautifully integrated freshness and a generous black-fruit core, finishing long with some spicy layers coming through.

92Wine Spectator

Warm and steeped in feel, featuring plum, blackberry and black cherry compote notes, laced with menthol, tar and tobacco details. Reveals a broad, loamy character through the finish, where everything knits nicely.

92James Suckling

There’s plenty of toasty, spicy oak on the nose here with crushed violets and ripe dark fruit. The palate follows suit with roasted coffee threaded through sweetly ripe dark-berry flavors.

91Wine Enthusiast

...structure and weighty tannin, with smoky oak, toasted black currant and earthy forest floor. Cedar, sage and tobacco round it out nicely to add further complexity.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Carneros

Carneros AVA, also known as Los Carneros, is at the southern end of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys at the top of the San Francisco Bay. The 8,000 vineyard acres are mostly planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, both of which thrive in the district’s cool, marine climate. Carneros became an AVA in 1983 and it has attracted foreign wine companies along with local producers. It has been especially appealing to European producers of sparkling wines including the giant Spanish cava producers Codorniu and Frexinet, and the French Champagne house Taittinger. Codorniu in Carneros is called Artesa, and Frexinet’s Carneros brand is Gloria Ferrer. Taittinger calls its Carneros winery Domaine Carneros. The European producers also make still wines in Carneros.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
