RATINGS

98+ Jeb Dunnuck

...perfumed, elegant wine that offers Château Margaux-like elegance and complexity. Crème de cassis, black raspberries, violets, sandalwood, and a beautiful sense of gravelly minerality all give way to a full-bodied, seamless red that has fine tannins, the freshness and elegance of the vintage, and a great, great finish.

96+ The Wine Advocate

...notes of crème de cassis, violets, blueberry compote and chocolate box with hints of exotic spices, kirsch and underbrush plus a waft of cigar box. Full-bodied and absolutely packed with black and blue fruit layers, it's lifted by a compelling perfume and lively backbone with the sexiest and most beautifully ripe tannins paving the long finish.

96Vinous / IWC

...bold, exuberant...terrific. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, chocolate, new leather and spice are all pushed forward... Exotic, racy and voluptuous to the core...

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

St. Helena AVA is at the northern end of Napa Valley just north of Rutherford and south of Calistoga. It is a relatively warm climate thanks to the Mayacamas Mountains on its western edge, which protect it from Pacific Ocean fog. Out of the 9,000 acres in the appellation, some 1,500 are under vine. The principal grapes grown in St. Helena are the Bordeaux grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. St. Helena is considered prime wine producing territory, and it was one of the first important wine producing regions in northern California. The legendary Charles Krug founded his winery just north of the town of St. Helena in 1873, and today the appellation is home to many prestigious producers, including Abreu, Grace Family and Spottswoode.
