RATINGS

98Robert M. Parker Jr.

...offers aromas of high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, earth, cedar and asphalt. Full, rich and stunningly concentrated, I doubt it is inferior to the 2010, just more classic...

93Stephen Tanzer

Juicy, spicy and penetrating, with lovely harmonious acids providing great clarity and cut to the black fruit and graphite flavors...This may yet turn out to be the wine of the vintage, but it will require patience.

92Wine Spectator

This is supple and harmonious already, with inviting, almost plush blackberry, plum and fig fruit notes carried by very fine-grained, lightly cedary structure. Black tea and sandalwood flash on the finish.

18Jancis Robinson

...Well-mannered nose with lots of subtlety and a hint of well-polished leather. Very juicy with lots of palate impact but still very unresolved...Rather exotic and spicy with glamorously managed tannins. Marked freshness. Very 2008!...

REGION

France, Bordeaux, Pauillac

Pauillac is Bordeaux’s most famous appellation, thanks to the fact that it is home to three of the region’s fabled first-growth châteaux, Lafite-Rothschild, Mouton-Rothschild and Latour. Perched on the left bank of the Gironde River north of the city of Bordeaux, Pauillac is centered around the commune of Pauillac and includes about 3,000 acres of vineyards. The Bordeaux classification of 1855 named 18 classified growths, including the three above mentioned First Growths. Cabernet Sauvignon is the principal grape grown, followed by Merlot. The soil is mostly sandy gravel mixed with marl and iron. Robert M. Parker Jr. has written that “the textbook Pauillac would tend to have a rich, full-bodied texture, a distinctive bouquet of black currants, licorice and cedary scents, and excellent aging potential.”
