RATINGS

95James Suckling

A chewy red with lots of blackberry and blueberry character. Conifer and dried-mushroom undertones. Full-bodied. Tannic yet polished.

95Wine Enthusiast

Juicy black fruit and rocky minerality combine with force to create a lasting impression... Baking spice, clove, sage and herb wrap around a length of complex structure and persistent power, with just enough acidity to keep it fresh.

94+ Jeb Dunnuck

Blue fruits, cassis, sappy herbs, bay leaf, and foresty, piney notes all emerge from the glass, and it's medium to full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with no hard edges and plenty of polished tannins.

93Wine Spectator

Intense, with notes of crushed rock and tar providing a solid bass line, while steeped plum and blackberry compote flavors wait in reserve...exhibits lots of energy, revealing hints of anise, black tea and iron.

91+ Vinous / IWC

Pine, menthol, licorice, graphite and black cherry notes emerge from a wall of piercing, powerful tannins.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Mount Veeder

Mount Veeder AVA was established in 1993, though its origins as a wine producing district date to the 19th century. A German Presbyterian pastor named Peter Veeder was one of the first landowners in the area, and by 1864 one of his neighbors, a German sea captain named Stelham Wing, was producing wine commercially. The area continued to attract German agricultural entrepreneurs, some of whom established the estate that would later become the Christian Brothers Mont La Salle winery. Today the AVA includes about 1,000 acres of vineyards, most of them at relatively high altitudes. The Mayacamas vineyard, for instance, is at 2,400 feet. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most frequently planted grape, followed by Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
