RATINGS

96The Wine Advocate

...expansive flavors and fine aromatic nuances. Quince fruit is overlaid by wafts of chaparral, sage, mushroom and dark spices on the nose, and the palate has a satiny texture and gentle tang, finishing long and mineral-driven.

96Vinous / IWC

...fabulous... Rich and expansive on the palate...laced with apricot, tangerine oil, butter and tropical fruit...gets better and better in the glass as the layers start to flesh out.

95James Suckling

Aromas of peaches and lemons and bread dough...light nuts. Full-bodied, with a lovely density and finesse. Long and intense with a tangy and bright acidity. Very long. Wonderful finish. Agave finish. Savoy, ripe fruit. Love the finish.

95Jeb Dunnuck

Candied lemons, honeysuckle, crushed stone, and hints of tangerine oil all emerge... Medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, and layered...

93Wine Spectator

Lemon zest notes flank the concentrated apple pastry and white peach flavors that are supported by fresh acidity...creamy accents midpalate, with a vibrant, mineral-filled finish.

93Wine Enthusiast

Honeysuckle, grapefruit pith and slight petrol aromas show on the nose... The palate is wrapped in compelling tension, with flavors of lime balm, lemon verbena and brie rind complementing each other

REGION

United States, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County, Santa Rita Hills

Santa Rita Hills AVA in northern Santa Barbara County was granted appellation status in 2001. Located between the towns of Lompoc and Buellton, it has a total area of 30,720 acres with 2,700 vineyard acres. The area is considered a cool climate for vineyards, so vineyards are most often planted with the cool-weather grapes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The hills in the western part of this appellation are directly exposed to the Pacific Ocean, meaning that maritime winds and fog make the western edge of the Santa Rita Hills AVA particularly cool. The Sanford & Benedict Vineyard planted in 1971 was the first vineyard in the district and is still considered one of the best.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
