RATINGS

98+ The Wine Advocate

...gorgeous perfume of baking spices, violets, Sichuan pepper and fragrant earth. More earthy and savory in the mouth than on the nose, the palate is superbly structured and taut...long, complex finish.

98James Suckling

...very bold nose with ripe red plums, blackberries, cherries and dark peaches...very complex spices, in the clove and cardamom zone, as well as some fresh, tarry notes and licorice. The palate has a super rich and polished feel. So showy and ebullient, this really blooms out with such rich, dense, ripe-fruit flavors, in the plum and dark-berry spectrum. Wildly delicious Armagh.

96Wine Spectator

Robust and dense...plenty of torque to the generous, velvety flavors of huckleberry pie, blueberry syrup, sarsaparilla, cacao and nutmeg, all set on a plush, thick body. The intensity kicks in on the finish, where spice and smoke details linger effortlessly.

94Wine Enthusiast

Enchanting, complex aromas of purple beets, mocha, strawberry leaf, raspberries, figs and dates continue on the palate, all cloaked in savory, powdery tannins...

18Jancis Robinson

Wow! The concentration on the nose is quite something, pure blackcurrant leaf, cassis and a eucalypt note. So soft on the palate... The tannins are fully resolve...the acidity is vibrant and carries it beautifully. Stunning...

REGION

Australia, South Australia, Clare Valley

South Australia is the nation’s most important wine region. South Australia is to Australia what California is to the U.S. About half of Australia’s wine comes from South Australia and many of the country’s most acclaimed producers are there. Wineries based in South Australia include Penfolds Grange, Torbreck, Amon Ra, Henschke and Jacob’s Creek. The prestigious Barossa Valley is located in South Australia, and is often compared to Napa Valley because it is gorgeous topography covered in grape vines. First farmed by 19th century German-speakers who immigrated from what is now Poland, the Barossa Valley is the crown jewel of the region. South Australia has widely varying climates, from very hot, dry areas to cooler, high altitude areas. There are more than 150,000 acres of vineyards in South Australia, with more being planted each month. Shiraz is king, though the region also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Chardonnay and Semillon.

TYPE

Red Wine, Syrah (Shiraz)

This grape is grown in milder climates and produces a medium-to full-bodied wine. It is also known as Shiraz, but should not be confused with Petit Sirah, which was developed by crossing Syrah with Peloursin.
