RATINGS

92James Suckling

...fresh, vivid red with aromas of crushed blueberries and fresh flowers that follow through to a medium body. Firm tannins that are polished and relatively integrated.

92Wine Enthusiast

...opens with aromas of black-skinned berry, cedar, plum and clove. The juicy palate offers black-currant jam, licorice and sage alongside velvety tannins.

91The Wine Advocate

There is a sure sense of precision and sharpness here with bright berry and black cherry. Those aromas show quality and craftsmanship.

91Vinous / IWC

...rich, explosive wine that embodies all of the natural richness and opulence of the year. Black cherry, bittersweet chocolate, plum, mocha, licorice, spice, leather and menthol burst from the glass in this exuberant, flamboyant red...all the elements are so well balanced.

90Wine Spectator

Bright and succulent, this red offers cherry, blueberry and blackberry flavors, accented by bell pepper, iron and tobacco notes. Turns lean on the finish, with lightly astringent tannins.

17Jancis Robinson

Lots of bright cherry and raspberry fruit. Juicy finish with crunchy tannins and mellow creamy notes. A crowd pleaser with style.

REGION

Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri

Bolgheri is a tiny village just inland from the western Tuscan coast with a storybook renaissance castle but no train station. To wine enthusiasts, however, Bolgheri DOC is perhaps Italy’s most exciting wine appellation. It is the cultural heart of the Maremma, the coastal stretch of Tuscany where some of the first Super Tuscans were produced commercially in the late 1960s. Various members of the legendary Antinori wine dynasty and other influential producers established estates in Bolgheri starting in the 1970s, creating such Super Tuscans as Guado Al Tasso and Ornellaia. Bolgheri was awarded DOC status in 1983. Red, white and dessert wines are made in this appellations, and many of the most renowned are the Super Tuscans made from blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and other red varietals. The white wines are blends of Vermentino and Trebbiano. The reds are notable for being blends that have a distinctive Tuscan terroir.
