RATINGS

92Wine Spectator

Smooth and luscious, with polished plum, black cherry and espresso details that slowly give way to deeper flavors of mahogany, clove and black tea. Shows a juicy edge to the fruit, but also plenty of base notes from dense and polished tannins.

92James Suckling

...blackcurrants and a tarry edge with dried plums, some raisins, mint and sweetly fragrant oak spices...palate is very smooth and juicy. The fully ripe tannins are super fluid and open-knit, delivering a silky and approachable style.

90The Wine Advocate

Slightly herbal and leafy on the nose...deep, currant-scented...medium to full-bodied, with soft, measured tannins and true Cabernet identity...some cedar and mocha notes apparent on the nose and finish, but the cassis fruit carries the day.

90Wine Enthusiast

...ripe raspberries and currants along with dark chocolate and dried mint. The palate is silky-textured and oozes with ripe, almost jammy, fruit and savory, grainy tannins.

16.5Jancis Robinson

Very fresh and really quite refined. Rich blackberry compote with a little mineral top note. Very pleasing.

REGION

Australia, South Australia

South Australia is the nation’s most important wine region. South Australia is to Australia what California is to the U.S. About half of Australia’s wine comes from South Australia and many of the country’s most acclaimed producers are there. Wineries based in South Australia include Penfolds Grange, Torbreck, Amon Ra, Henschke and Jacob’s Creek. The prestigious Barossa Valley is located in South Australia, and is often compared to Napa Valley because it is gorgeous topography covered in grape vines. First farmed by 19th century German-speakers who immigrated from what is now Poland, the Barossa Valley is the crown jewel of the region. South Australia has widely varying climates, from very hot, dry areas to cooler, high altitude areas. There are more than 150,000 acres of vineyards in South Australia, with more being planted each month. Shiraz is king, though the region also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Chardonnay and Semillon.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
