RATINGS

93Wine Spectator

Deep and complex, with licorice- and violet-scented black fruit flavors and notes of oolong tea, chestnut and black pepper. The tannins are dense but polished. Everything is in harmony on the finish...

93James Suckling

...delivers the peppery, savory character spectrum, in the roasting-herb and pastry zone, backed by red plums and raspberry compote. The palate is as fresh and appealing as it should be, offering raspberry and red-licorice flavors, set amid light, fine tannins that carry deceptive length and strength.

92The Wine Advocate

It's red-fruited and bright, with raspberries and cherries couched in supple layers of French oak. Caramel and mocha shadings add richness and depth, with dry cedary-savory notes on the finish.

92+ Jeb Dunnuck

Notes of black raspberries, peppery herbs, mint, and graphite all emerge from this medium to full-bodied Shiraz that stays tight and focused on the palate, yet has good concentration, terrific purity of fruit, and a great finish.

91Vinous / IWC

Fresh boysenberry, candied violet and a hint of vanilla on the intensely perfumed nose. Shows very good depth as well as energy to its juicy, spice-laced black and blue fruit flavors, which pick up a smoky nuance as the wine opens up. Silky, even tannins lend shape to a long, smooth finish that leaves blue fruit and floral notes behind.

90Wine Enthusiast

It delivers restrained and polished notes of plums, currants, peppercorns, dried herbs and cedar...fined grained and herbal, supporting juicy, plummy fruit.

16Jancis Robinson

Intense and ripe. Pinched finish and tough end. Prune flavour. Sudden finish though.

REGION

Australia, South Australia, Coonawarra

South Australia is the nation’s most important wine region. South Australia is to Australia what California is to the U.S. About half of Australia’s wine comes from South Australia and many of the country’s most acclaimed producers are there. Wineries based in South Australia include Penfolds Grange, Torbreck, Amon Ra, Henschke and Jacob’s Creek. The prestigious Barossa Valley is located in South Australia, and is often compared to Napa Valley because it is gorgeous topography covered in grape vines. First farmed by 19th century German-speakers who immigrated from what is now Poland, the Barossa Valley is the crown jewel of the region. South Australia has widely varying climates, from very hot, dry areas to cooler, high altitude areas. There are more than 150,000 acres of vineyards in South Australia, with more being planted each month. Shiraz is king, though the region also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Chardonnay and Semillon.

TYPE

Red Wine, Syrah (Shiraz)

This grape is grown in milder climates and produces a medium-to full-bodied wine. It is also known as Shiraz, but should not be confused with Petit Sirah, which was developed by crossing Syrah with Peloursin.
