RATINGS

97The Wine Advocate

The 2009 Richebourg is a dramatic wine... so much fruit that the tannins are barely perceptible... This is a huge, vertical wine that captures the essence of Richebourg in its towering fruit and structure.

97+ Vinous / IWC

Swaths of tannin frame an explosive core of fruit in a Burgundy endowed with a real sense of gravitas...radiance and ripeness of the year has filled out the wine nicely...

97Burghound.com

...expansive and tautly muscular broad-shouldered flavors are, unusually, almost as fine as those of the RSV yet even slightly more complex with the same finely grained tannins... genuinely sensational, clearly built for the very long haul.

95Wine Spectator

A fleshy, charming red, sporting expressive aromas of cherry and sandalwood, with a touch of mint. On the palate, a mouthful of cherry, berry, smoke, leaf and spice notes are allied to a dense texture and serious tannins...

95+ Stephen Tanzer

...sharply delineated but tightly wound and dominated by its structure. Conveys a rigorous impression of calcaire minerality but this will need a good decade... Finishes very long and subtle, with superb spine and lingering perfume.

18.5Jancis Robinson

Very rich and sumptuous nose. The epitome of richness... In 2009 this seems more obviously rich than the Romanée-St-Vivant... Very refreshing on the finish. Not a heavyweight but very entrancing...

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanee, Richebourg

Richebourg is an 18.3-acre Grand Cru pinot noir vineyard in the Cote de Nuits, within the commune of Vosne-Romanee. The vineyard lies just to the north of La Romanee and Romanee-Conti and is situated at elevations from 260 to 280 meters. The soil is a clay, pebble, limestone and sand mixture. Richebourg includes the subsection of Les Veroilles-sous-Richebourg. Principal landholders of Richebourg are Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, with 8.78 acres; Leroy, with 1.95 acres; and Gros Frere et Soeur, with 1.73 acres.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
