RATINGS

95Stephen Tanzer

Ineffable aromas of raspberry, rose petal and minerals display wonderful perfumed lift... Silky, concentrated and fine-grained on entry, then sharply delineated and perfumed in the middle palate, boasting superb floral lift...black raspberry, crushed stone and botanical herb flavors. A wonderfully savory, silky midweight with terrific energy...noble, perfectly buffered tannins. The savory, slowly building finish is hard to scrape off your palate.

94James Suckling

Deep, smoky and meaty nose. A powerful wide-screen wine in which the major tannin structure is almost masked, showing its hand a little at the fresh and very subtle finish.

93-96Burghound.com

Discreet but not invisible wood serves as a backdrop for the airy, ripe and very pure red and dark cherry, earth and wonderfully broad-ranging spice notes. There is terrific punch to the big, robust, tautly structured and well-muscled flavors that ooze with minerality and buckets of mid-palate sap that buffers the prominent tannic spine on the youthfully austere finish.

18.5Jancis Robinson

Very rich and polished. Sweet start with a little bit of coffee grounds... Throbs on the finish.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits Villages, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Beze

Chambertin Clos-de-Beze is a Grand Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, and its history goes back to the 7th century when it was owned by the monks of the Abbey of Beze. After the French Revolution the Catholic Church was forced to divide the vineyard among peasants. Today it is a 38-acre vineyard, making it slightly larger than Chambertin. Chambertin and Chambertin Clos-de-Beze are adjacent and share similar limestone, clay and gravel soils. Of the 18 proprietors, the largest by acreage are Pierre Damoy, 13.4 acres; Armand Rousseau, 3.5 acres; and Drouhin-Laroze, 3.48 acres.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
