RATINGS

94James Suckling

A very vibrant nose with rich dark fruit, delivered in a complex mode with red to dark cherries, as well as an array of amaro-like mountain herbs and preserved citrus. There’s a very fluid feel to the palate that offers a wealth of fresh and attractive cherries with a gently tangy kick at the elegant, spicy finish.

94Wine Enthusiast

Tightly wound fruit flavors strike a sharp raspberry note, with a zesty highlight of orange peel emphasizing the bright acidity. The concentration and length are admirable...

93The Wine Advocate

...nose of gravel dust, black tea leaves, mushroom, tree bark, bay leaf, cinnamon stick and clove with fragrant earth, dried roses and potpourri. Medium-bodied, it offers amaro-laced fruits and spices in the mouth with a firm, grainy frame and long, bitters-laced finish.

93Wine Spectator

Precise and dynamic, with cherry and strawberry flavors accented by orange zest, clove and savory spice notes, finishing with fine tannins.

93Vinous / IWC

Expansive, spice-accented red/dark berry scents pick up hints of succulent herbs and smoky minerals with air. Juicy, focused and appealingly sweet on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and cherry-cola flavors... Closes very long and smooth, with emphatic red fruit character and rounded tannins that add framework and grip.

90Burghound.com

Ripe aromas of spicy poached plum, dark raspberry and briar introduce velvet-textured medium weight flavors that possess a sleek mid-palate that contrasts somewhat with the moderately robust, firm and noticeably warm finish.

REGION

United States, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Willamette Valley AVA was established in 1983, and it is the oldest appellation in Oregon. Oregon’s modern wine industry began in the Willamette Valley in the 1960s when artists, vagabond winemakers, and U.C. Davis oenology graduates looking for new territory started their own, small, off-the-grid wineries. The appellation is the state’s largest, and it extends 175 miles from Columbia River on the Washington/Oregon border to just south of Eugene, near central Oregon. The Willamette River runs through the area, helping to give the appellation a mild year-round climate. There are six smaller sub-appellations within this AVA, but altogether the Willamette Valley has the largest concentration of wineries in Oregon, as well as the majority of the state’s most famous producers. Pinot Noir is king here, followed by Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling. To most admirers of Oregon Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley offers the most distinctive wine choices in the state.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
