RATINGS

100Robert M. Parker Jr.

One of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted,...The wine hits the palate with extraordinary purity, balance and intensity as well as perfect equilibrium, and a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, wood and alcohol...

100James Suckling

What a fabulous nose of currants, raspberries & Indian spices. Nutmeg & clover. Full-bodied with an amazing precision & superb compacted fruit. Endless. Laser guided. Shows such intensity. Decadent & rich... Mystical wine. Dense, yet agile.

This is a stunner, with gloriously ripe, succulent cassis, blackberry and fig fruit flavors backed by extra notes of plum cake, blueberry confiture and roasted wood spice. On the back half, the iron spine takes over on the hard-driving...

...Fat, lush, saline and sweet, conveying an impression of extreme port-like ripeness. Huge, mouth-saturating flavors of dark berries and chocolate. Not heavy but doesn't exactly dance on the palate...

Blackish crimson. Vibrant colour. Heady and round and dramatic. Definitely makes a play for your attention! A youthful wine still dominated by tannins. First-growth structure. Bone dry. Classic-issimo...

REGION

France, Bordeaux, St.-Estephe

Saint-Estèphe is in the northern Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde River. Although it has no First Growth estates, its five Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Growth châteaux are notable, and, in recent decades, have become favorites with reviewers and consumers. Some reviewers also note that the appellation is today making excellent Cru Bourgeois wines, which frequently offer good value. There are 3,404 acres of vineyards and a variety of soil types, from gravelly soil to soil with significant sand or clay. The two Second Growth Châteaux in St.-Estephe are Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. The Third Growth Calon-Ségur is widely admired. The principal grapes grown are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
