RATINGS

98Robert M. Parker Jr.

Dense bluish/purple color to the rim...floral notes dominating the wine’s aromatics. Violets and rose petals followed by blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as some crushed rock in a medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, suave style

98Jeb Dunnuck

... comes from sites just south of Diamond Mountain, yet it offers a very different style in its black and blue fruits, bay leaf, spring flowers, damp earth, tobacco and mineral bouquet. With incredible purity and intensity, full-bodied richness and power, integrated acidity, and silky tannin, it needs 2-4 years of cellaring but will evolve for 2-3 decades as well. (December 2017)

92Vinous / IWC

An attractive, nuanced wine, with striking aromatics, silky tannins and mid-weight structure...lavors are decidedly bright and floral, while the expression of fruit tends towards the redder end of the spectrum.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District

Spring Mountain AVA is above the town of St. Helena on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. There is no actual Spring Mountain, but the name has traditionally been used for the area, which includes many streams and springs. Spring Mountain was awarded appellation status in 1993 and it includes about 1,000 vineyard acres. Vineyard elevations are high, from 400 to 2,600 feet above sea level. Because of the altitude of most vineyards, which are above the fog line, mornings become warm earlier than vineyards on the valley floor, though the afternoons are cooled by maritime winds. The result is an exceptionally long growing season. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most frequently planted grape by acreage, followed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
