RATINGS

94Vinous / IWC

...rich and exotic in the glass, with layers of plump blueberry, blackberry fruit. Lavender, spice, mint and floral notes give the wine its striking inner perfume and sweetness... All the elements are impeccably balanced in this very pretty, alluring wine from Helen Keplinger.

94James Suckling

A fine and polished syrah with berries, spices and dried meat. Medium to full body. Love the texture. Fresh and bright.

92Wine Spectator

Plush and rich, with an elegantly structured core and alluring raspberry, violet, orange peel and baking spice accents that linger on the long finish.

92Jeb Dunnuck

This peppery, ripe, black cherry, black raspberry, and earthy effort has medium to full-bodied richness, a plush, upfront, sweetly fruited style, and a great finish.

REGION

United States, California, Sierra Foothills, Amador County

Sierra Foothills AVA is in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and it includes parts of eight counties. With total acreage of 2.6 million acres, and nearly 6,000 vineyard acres, it is one of the largest appellations in California. Wine grapes were planted in the foothills during the Gold Rush in the mid-19th century and the appellation was officially recognized in 1987. There are five sub-appellations within the Sierra Foothills region, and more than 100 wineries, most small and family-owned. Zinfandel is the most successful wine grape in this region, though Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are also planted.
