RATINGS

98Wine Enthusiast

...complex and cohesive aromas of iron, cigar and currant. Textured and lifted, it shows plenty of structure and graceful power...

96+ Jeb Dunnuck

...fabulous aromatics of pure crème de cassis, chocolate, unsmoked tobacco, and cedar pencil, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a rare mix of power and finesse, polished tannins, and a great, great finish.

94James Suckling

Plenty of blueberry, dark chocolate and light vanilla character, but not overdone...medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and a linear finish.

93Wine Spectator

Polished and soft-edged in feel...with plenty of depth to its core of warmed plum sauce and steeped black cherry and blackberry fruit. Dark licorice and bittersweet cocoa accents coat the finish, where there's a loamy echo as well.

92+ The Wine Advocate

...fragrant nose of black plums, warm cassis, lavender and black raspberries, with touches of tilled soil, wild sage and underbrush...elegantly styled, medium to full-bodied palate...soft-spoken with fine-grained tannins and an earthy finish.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena, Las Piedras Vineyard

Las Piedras was first planted in the mid-19th century, and within a few years its grapes were being used to make wine by Henry Amstutz, one of the area’s first important winemakers. The 25-acre vineyard in St. Helena was acquired by Beckstoffer in 1983. Today it is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Beckstoffer Vineyards owns and farms more than 3,600 acres of highly prestigious grape growing vineyards in Napa Valley, Mendocino County and the Red Hills of Lake County. A senior executive with Heublein in the 1960s, Andy Beckstoffer is credited with steering Napa Valley vintners towards improving farming and the quality of the grapes used for wine. Grapes from any Beckstoffer vineyards are considered among the finest available in California.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
