RATINGS

97Jeb Dunnuck

Crème de cassis, blackberries, toasted spices, cedar, and forest floor notes all emerge from this deep, rich, opulent red that has sweet tannins, a thrilling texture, no hard edges, and a monster finish.

93The Wine Advocate

...expressive nose with a firm core of dark fruit, showing dense concentration of elegant florals and integrated oak spices. The full-bodied palate is clean and correct with a line of minerality through the mid-palate that is balanced by the naturally plush and generous fruit, ending with a long and contemplative finish.

93Stephen Tanzer

...offering aromas of black cherry, menthol and bitter chocolate. Then wonderfully silky and dense in the mouth, combining superb concentration and a subtle sweetness to its flavors of black raspberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and sexy oak. Fully ripe but also nicely delineated. Finishes very long and classically dry, with serious but smooth tongue-saturating tannins and resounding fruit.

91Wine Enthusiast

Aromas of burnt coffee, leaf, apple and spice lead to chocolatey flavors. Coffee notes linger on the warm finish.

90Wine Spectator

Tightly focused and structured, but the black currant, stony mineral and fresh tobacco accents build richness toward broad-shouldered tannins.

90James Suckling

...offers a fresh array of ripe red fruit with a smooth and juicy delivery of tannin that is framed in glossy oak spice. All modern and supple here and an easygoing finish.

REGION

United States, Washington, Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley AVA is larger than some states. At 18,000 square miles, or 11 million acres, the appellation covers almost half of Washington State and a small part of Oregon on the south side of the Columbia River. Established in 1984, Columbia Valley contains numerous sub appellations within its boundaries, including Yakima Valley AVA and Walla Walla AVA, both large and important wine districts. Columbia Valley AVA, generally called the Columbia Basin by Pacific Northwesterners, is in the Columbia River Plateau, and the AVA also includes a section of northeastern Oregon. There are dozens of microclimates within this appellation of about 7,000 vineyard acres. Many kinds of grapes are grown in the Columbia Valley, though the principal grapes planted are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Eastern Washington experiences very hot summers and cold winters, and the northern latitude means that Washington vineyards receive several more hours of sun in the summer than California vineyards. Grapes in Washington therefore have time to develop significant tannins and overall ripeness.
