RATINGS

93Vinous / IWC

Dark, pliant and expressive, the 2012 offers gorgeous complexity and tons of nuance. Sage, rosemary and mint add shades of complexity on the intensely aromatic, varietally expressive finish.

91-93Robert M. Parker Jr.

One of the stars of the vintage, it exhibits oodles of fruit and richness.

91Stephen Tanzer

Highly aromatic, subtly complex nose combines dark raspberry, menthol, Christmas spices and orange peel.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Atlas Peak

Atlas Peak AVA is perched above the Stags Leap AVA to the northeast of the city of Napa. Elevation ranges from 760 to 2,600 feet, and temperatures are up to 15 degrees cooler in the Atlas Peak vineyards compared with vineyards in the valley. There are 1,500 vineyard acres planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The appellation was named for Atlas Peak, which, at 2,633 feet above sea level, is the highest peak in the area.

TYPE

Red Wine, Zinfandel

Zinfandel is a black-skinned grape, but 85% of the wine produced is made into a rosy “White Zinfandel.” Red Zin is far more complex and bold, while still being light-bodied. It grows in popularity as winemakers continue to experiment with new styles and blends.
