RATINGS

94The Wine Advocate

...beautifully defined, floral and refined with hints of violet marrying with the fruit profile. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a savory, digestif note on the entry, and the acidity finely tuned with a gentle crescendo...

94Wine Spectator

A ripe, flamboyant style, boasting cherry, strawberry and baking spice flavors. Balanced and fresh, with firm tannins shoring up the long finish.

94+ Vinous / IWC

Cool aromas of blackberry, black cherry, licorice, wild herbs, woodsmoke and black pepper. Sappy and fine-grained, showing piquant peppery lift to the dark fruit, spice, mineral and mint flavors.

94Burghound.com

This is quite floral with perfumed & very spicy aromas of violets, plum, black cherry & plum liqueur scents... refined mouth feel to the powerful, intense & solidly well-concentrated... I like the subtle combination of power & refinement...

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Morey-St.-Denis, Clos de Tart

Clos de Tart is a Grand Cru vineyard in the Morey St.-Denis appellation of Burgundy. During the Middle Ages it was owned by Cistercian monks, but it was sold at auction after the French Revolution. In 1932 the 18.6 acre vineyard was bought by the negociant Mommessin, which today owns the entirety of the vineyard and runs it as a monopoly. Vineyards are planted to north to south, which is unusual, which is partly to help guard against erosion. The soil is stony with some clay.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
