RATINGS

95Robert M. Parker Jr.

...beautiful nose of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit with camphor and forest floor...deep, opulent, with voluptuous texture, stunning fruit, adequate acidity and terrific purity and length. This is a beauty and very much in keeping with the overall vintage character of lushness and super-ripe plush fruit that stops short of going over-the-top...

95Wine Enthusiast

This is a sultry, sexy wine—elegant in red fruit and black licorice, with a restrained approach to both tannin and oak...has a complex mix of aromas, from pine and forest floor to brambly wild berry. Full bodied and voluptuous on the palate, it remains balanced and pretty...

93Wine Spectator

This exhibits a striking mix of loamy, gravelly earth, dried currant, dark berry, black licorice, cedar and dried herb flavors, all well-distributed and focused, ending with a long, layered finish that is persistent and nuanced.

92-94Vinous / IWC

...one of the most explosive, opulent wines in the range. Dark plum, smoke, black fruit, licorice and new leather meld together in a juicy, expressive wine...

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain

Diamond Mountain District AVA is in the Mayacamas Mountains at the northwestern end of Napa Valley. The appellation is relatively high and the entire district is more than 400 feet above sea level. Some vineyards are as high as 2,200 feet above sea level. Because of their altitude, Diamond Mountain vineyards experience warmer days but colder nights than vineyards on the valley floor. Once volcanic soil, the terrain in the appellation has over time become less fertile, making grape growing particularly challenging. Nevertheless the district has attracted wine producers for more than a century. There are 500 vineyard acres out of a total of 5,000 acres. Among the highly regarded wineries here are Lokoya Winery, Diamond Creek Vineyards and Schramsberg Vineyards. Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are generally firmly structured, rich and quite tannic. Chardonnay is full-bodied with apple and peach aromas and firm acidity.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
