RATINGS

92Vinous / IWC

Sexy, oak-tinged dark berry and floral scents pick up cracked pepper and licorice flourishes with aeration. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering sweet blackberry and cherry flavors... Shows impressive clarity and spicy persistence on the finish, which is framed by smooth, even tannins.

92James Suckling

...showing good balance and an attractive sense of completeness and depth. The nose speaks of grapes... Lots of red plums, blackberries, raspberries and a good helping of oak spices. Hints of some orange zest, leafy aromas and rhubarb. The palate's smoothly rendered thanks to red-cherry and plum flavors taking center stage. Don't miss the peppery edge and long, ripe tannins. This ends with a really smooth finish. Great depth and good balance overall.

90+ The Wine Advocate

...good core of pronounced black fruits, loam and tar with chargrill notes plus a hint of black pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is led by structure with a solid backbone, taut fruit and great length, going earthy/peppery on the finish.

90Wine Spectator

The vanilla-scented blackberry jam, chai tea and licorice-scented plum flavors are generous and plump, with a juicy finish.

17.5Jancis Robinson

Very aromatic... Then a dry finish but masses of fruit on the mid palate...generously fruited... Grainy finish. Really rather sophisticated.

REGION

Australia, South Australia, Coonawarra

South Australia is the nation’s most important wine region. South Australia is to Australia what California is to the U.S. About half of Australia’s wine comes from South Australia and many of the country’s most acclaimed producers are there. Wineries based in South Australia include Penfolds Grange, Torbreck, Amon Ra, Henschke and Jacob’s Creek. The prestigious Barossa Valley is located in South Australia, and is often compared to Napa Valley because it is gorgeous topography covered in grape vines. First farmed by 19th century German-speakers who immigrated from what is now Poland, the Barossa Valley is the crown jewel of the region. South Australia has widely varying climates, from very hot, dry areas to cooler, high altitude areas. There are more than 150,000 acres of vineyards in South Australia, with more being planted each month. Shiraz is king, though the region also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Chardonnay and Semillon.

TYPE

Red Wine, Syrah (Shiraz)

This grape is grown in milder climates and produces a medium-to full-bodied wine. It is also known as Shiraz, but should not be confused with Petit Sirah, which was developed by crossing Syrah with Peloursin.
