RATINGS

94Wine Spectator

Super-refined...intense cigar-box, plum and berry aromas and flavors; there's even a hint of mint...full-bodied...fine tannin and a seductively long finish.

93The Wine Advocate

...gorgeous tobacco and graphite scents with hints of cooked meat. The palate is high-toned on the entry, a little tarry with a smooth, almost creamy texture... Medium-bodied, smooth, more modern in style... deserving more bottle age.

93James Suckling

...pretty aromas of sweet Thai basil along with Asian plums. Full, soft and fruity...so round and gorgeous.

92Vinous / IWC

Floral nose offers aromas of red cherry, orange rind, cedar and aromatic herbs. Big, dense and concentrated, with ripe red cherry and plum flavors complemented by underbrush, sweet pipe tobacco and mint. Finishes long, sweet...

18Jancis Robinson

Very polished and sumptuous – beautifully-knit nose. Very polished tannins and quite a bit of tannin tucked away on the end. Not heavy but a class act. First-growth quality confirmed. Super fresh and clean on the finish.

****Michael Broadbent

Very Cabernet cassis... Unquestionably, a most attractive wine, its tannin and acid finish not out of line. One was tantalised by its flavour...

REGION

France, Bordeaux, Pauillac

Pauillac is Bordeaux’s most famous appellation, thanks to the fact that it is home to three of the region’s fabled first-growth châteaux, Lafite-Rothschild, Mouton-Rothschild and Latour. Perched on the left bank of the Gironde River north of the city of Bordeaux, Pauillac is centered around the commune of Pauillac and includes about 3,000 acres of vineyards. The Bordeaux classification of 1855 named 18 classified growths, including the three above mentioned First Growths. Cabernet Sauvignon is the principal grape grown, followed by Merlot. The soil is mostly sandy gravel mixed with marl and iron. Robert M. Parker Jr. has written that “the textbook Pauillac would tend to have a rich, full-bodied texture, a distinctive bouquet of black currants, licorice and cedary scents, and excellent aging potential.”
