RATINGS

97Jeb Dunnuck

...straight up sensational...a deep, slightly reticent bouquet of cherry pits, black raspberries, dried violets, forest floor and spice. Incredibly nuanced, seamless, silky and refined on the palate, with terrific tension, purity, and concentration, it’s one of the do-not-miss wines of the 2015 vintage!

95Vinous / IWC

Rich ample and pliant...possesses remarkable depth and density in all of its dimensions... What comes through most is the extraordinary quality of the fruit. An infusion of blood orange, pomegranate, mint, white pepper and spices leads into a finish laced with exoticism and allure.

94+ The Wine Advocate

...with constantly evolving aromas of wild berries, rich spices, orange rind, espresso roast and violets...superb...medium-bodied... Intensely concentrated and underpinned by succulent acids, the quality of the powdery, velvety tannins is first-rate...finish is extremely long and stony...

Here the restrained nose is cool, airy and wonderfully seductive while displaying enough floral, herbal tea, sandalwood and spice elements... There is a lovely sense of verve to the rich and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract while delivering superb depth on the lingering finish where the only reproach is a hint of warmth...an absolute knockout...

REGION

United States, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

Santa Cruz Mountains AVA includes high elevation territory in the counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and San Mateo. The AVA follows the coast line from San Francisco to Monterey with elevations from 400 feet to 3,000 feet above sea level. There are 1,500 vineyard acres and the AVA was established in 1981. Despite the challenging terrain in these rugged mountains and hills, highly esteemed wineries have been located here since the early 20th century, when Paul Masson, a Frenchman by birth, started making sparkling wine in the area. By the 1970s vineyards were growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Numerous microclimates within the AVA offer viticulturists diverse growing conditions, and many varietals are grown successfully.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
