RATINGS

96+ Stephen Tanzer

Knockout musky, soil-driven aromas of lime, chicken broth and crushed stone. At once dense and penetrating, with elegant but seriously intense flavors of lime, lemon, powdered stone and mint.

95Wine Spectator

Refined, with a dense core of apple surrounded by pear and apple pie spice aromas and flavors. Bright and impeccably balanced, harmonious and well-defined, yet dense and still to reveal all its charms. Fine lenght with a creamy texture.

94-97The Wine Advocate

Aromatically, offers spices, minerals, gravel and pears. Spices, earth, poached pears, apples, white peaches, and ginger can be found throughout this blockbuster's flavor profile, as well as in its super-impressive finish.

93Burghound.com

...precise, delineated and pure flavors that also enjoy ample amounts of dry extract and awe-inspiring length.

18Jancis Robinson

Obviously classy, sleek and fine. Obviously Corton-Charlemagne.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses, Corton-Charlemagne

Corton-Charlemagne is a historic appellation for Grand Cru Chardonnay in the Cote de Beaune of Burgundy. The 129-acre vineyard falls within the boundaries of three communes, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. According to Burgundian historians, the vineyard is named for Charlemagne, the 8th century ruler who conquered most of western Europe. Charlemagne enjoyed the red wine of Corton, but as he grew older his wife disliked the red wine stains in his white beard, so Charlemagne had white grapes planted in Corton. Today only Chardonnay is allowed to be planted in Corton-Charlemagne, and it is one of Burgundy's most celebrated appellations for Grand Cru white wine. The largest land owners are Louis Latour, with 24 acres; Bonneau du Martray, with 23 acres; and Bouchard Pere et Fils, 9.5 acres.
