RATINGS

96The Wine Advocate

Aromas of rich red berries, cherries, raw cocoa, peonies, spices and orange rind...full-bodied, broad and velvety wine that's charming and enveloping, with terrific depth at the core, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish.

95John Gilman

The beautifully expressive bouquet soars from the glass in a mix of black plums, sweet dark berries, smoked meats, dark soil tones, bitter chocolate, bonfire, Vosne spices and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off stunning depth in the mid-palate, with great mineral drive and grip, ripe, beautifully integrated tannins and a long, complex and chewy finish.

94-96Vinous / IWC

Light flinty aromas develop with aeration, followed later by more briny aromas...palate is medium-bodied with a fresh opening, and very elegant and silky in mouthfeel...fans out wonderfully on the finish but retains its aristocratic air. Excellent.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits Villages, Flagey-Echezeaux, Echezeaux

Echezeaux is a 93-acre Grand Cru vineyard on the southern edge of the Cote de Nuits. It up the slope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echezeaux and is one of the largest grand crus in Burgundy. The vineyard varies in elevation from 250 to 300 meters, and the terroir includes significant clay as well as thin, rocky soil. The largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with 11.68 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret with 6.25 acres, and Emmanuel-Rouget, with 3.58 acres. Echezeaux produces red wine.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
