...broody nose at first, featuring black rather than red fruit, wet limestone, iris flowers and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannins and excellent acidity. Quite saline toward the finish. Superb aftertaste.
Going into the darker fruit spectrum here but with a cool elegance in the aroma. Dark and ripe yet the ripeness is somehow savoury not sweet. Like roasted veg. Elegance and restrained, super-fine tannins...dark, refined beauty with paper-like tannins in layers.
Unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries, violets, raspberries and rose hips, the 2018 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Clos des Ruchottes is the most ethereal wine in the cellar. Medium to full-bodied, racy and fine-boned, its delicate chassis of chalky structuring tannins is cloaked in fleshy but succulent fruit.
