RATINGS

91Wine Spectator

Smoky black cherry notes pervade the rich texture in this harmonious red. Everything is in the right place, showing a fine, minerally finish and good grip.

17Jancis Robinson

Smells a little more oaky and spicy...slight toasty note but well in harmony with the dark fruit. Dry, fine and mouthwatering on the finish. Tannnis are very well handled. The finish so juicy.

PRODUCER

Domaine Chanson Pere et Fils

Chanson Pere et Fils was established in Beaune in 1750, making it one of the oldest domaines in Beaune. The original founder, Simon Verry, named the business after himself. A century later, the family sold their business to their young manager, Alexis Chanson. In 1999 the 100-acre estate was sold to Champagne Bollinger and Jean-Pierre Confuron was brought in as winemaker. Chanson Pere et Fils has Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels, including the Beaune Premier Cru monopole Clos des Feves.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Beaune, Les Greves

Les Greves is a 75-acre Premier Cru vineyard in the central part of the Beaune appellation, in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune. Though Beaune has no Grand Cru vineyards, it has 44 vineyards that are either partly or completely Premier Cru. Clive Coates has written that in the central section of the Beaune appellation is “where you will find the finest examples of premier cru in Beaune.”

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
