RATINGS

95Wine Spectator

Lime blossom, peach, pear and toasty oak flavors are the highlights of this full-bodied white. A backbone of vivid acidity keeps it well-defined and drives the long finish. It's classy and refined, with an aftertaste of lime, mineral and spice revealing its future promise.

95Vinous / IWC

...has a very classy bouquet, very focused and detailed with crushed rocks and yellow flowers gently unfolding in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a peppery opening. Great depth and intensity here as it fans out gloriously, toward the finish, clearly a very sophisticated Chevalier...

PRODUCER

Philippe Colin

Philippe Colin comes from a large, extended and much-admired winemaking family in Chassagne-Montrachet, in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. Philippe is the younger son of Michel Colin, and Philippe’s first vintage was in 2004. He has nearly 17 acres of vineyards, including white Premier Cru parcels in Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin. He also has red Premier Cru parcels in Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot and Santenay Les Gravieres.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet

Chevalier-Montrachet is one of the four justly famous Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet appellation in Burgundy. The 18-acre vineyard is located up the slope from Le Montrachet and shares Le Montrachet’s excellent southern exposure, though Chevalier-Montrachet’s soil is considerably thinner and more rocky. Burgundy writer Clive Coates has noted that Chevalier-Montrachet is “full, firm” and has “a great deal of depth and elegance.” The largest landholders are Bouchard Pere et Fils, 7.5 acres; Leflaive, 4 acres; and Louis Jadot, 1.5 acres.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, Grand Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
