RATINGS

95The Wine Advocate

...fabulous, wafting from the glass with notes of wild berries, orange peel, cinnamon, rich soil and espresso. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered, with a lovely line of bright acidity, fine-grained tannins, sappy energy, and terrific depth and tension at the core.

93+ Stephen Tanzer

...redcurrant and cherry aromas complicated by menthol and flinty minerality...silky and energetic on entry, offering thick yet brisk flavors of acidulated small red fruits, spices and minerals...finishes with substantial ripe tannins, saturating the entire palate and building slowly on the aftertaste.

92+ Vinous / IWC

...black cherries, raspberries, autumn leaves and a touch of incense...crisp palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and plenty of tension...

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Pommard, Clos Des Epeneaux

Clos des Epeneaux is a 12.5-acre Premier Cru vineyard in Pommard, in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. It is in the central part of the Pommard appellation, to the east of the village, and it is a monopole of Comte Armand. Clive Coates has written that “the monopoly of the Comte Armand today produces some of the best wines in Burgundy.” Because Pommard has no Grand Crus, its Premier Crus are especially noteworthy. Pommard is an appellation of red wine only.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
