RATINGS

94-96The Wine Advocate

...soars from the glass with a pretty bouquet of cherries, raspberries, smoked duck, cinnamon and rose petals that's framed by a deft touch of new oak and also subtly inflected by the 15% whole clusters...

94+ Vinous / IWC

...tightly wound, intense bouquet of black fruit, briar, crushed limestone and a brushing of chalk dust. The palate is medium-bodied with hints of licorice and menthol on the entry.

91-94Burghound.com

There is once again excellent volume and richness to the concentrated medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sap on the dusty, serious and lengthy finish that displays really lovely balance.

18Jancis Robinson

Rich and sweet – and much more forward than the village Vosne! Layers and neatness. Good intensity and this should have a long and rather glorious life ahead.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits Villages, Flagey-Echezeaux, Echezeaux

Echezeaux is a 93-acre Grand Cru vineyard on the southern edge of the Cote de Nuits. It up the slope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echezeaux and is one of the largest grand crus in Burgundy. The vineyard varies in elevation from 250 to 300 meters, and the terroir includes significant clay as well as thin, rocky soil. The largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with 11.68 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret with 6.25 acres, and Emmanuel-Rouget, with 3.58 acres. Echezeaux produces red wine.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
