RATINGS

95Wine Enthusiast

Spicy and thick in rich, rewarding flavors of baked rhubarb and strawberry spiced by nutmeg, this bold red is also floral in rose petal. Velvety smooth and full bodied in style, it delivers concentrated complexity and undeniable appeal.

93+ Jeb Dunnuck

...darker core of fruit, showing notes of tart black cherries, cranberries, damp earth, leafy underbrush, and spring flowers. It's elegant, silky and seamless on the palate, with a beautiful tension and vibrancy in its texture, as well as a great finish.

92The Wine Advocate

...Bing cherries, tart cranberries, earth, wet leaves, woodsmoke and blackberries on the nose with a dusty streak. The palate is medium-bodied, silky and plushly fruited with addicting freshness and a gently grainy frame to support, finishing long.

92Vinous / IWC

Ripe plum, hard candy, mint and cola are nicely pushed forward...deftly balances Russian River fruitiness with the mid-weight style favored...

92James Suckling

Attractive crushed-rose and wildflower perfume...bright red cherries and berries. The palate has supple, smooth and soft tannin, delivered in approachable mode and carrying fresh, bright red-berry flavors.

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley

Russian River Valley AVA is named for the river that meanders from Mendocino County in the north until it finally runs into the Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco. The AVA is cool thanks to its proximity to the northern California coast and the river, and grape growers must learn to deal with regular fog. Nevertheless in recent decades the AVA has become one of the best in the state, meaning that its wines often earn excellent reviews and have considerable cachet. The AVA status was awarded in 1983 and today the appellation has 15,000 vineyard acres. Chardonnay is the most widely planted grape though Pinot Noir has also been very successful in recent decades. Russian River Valley Pinot Noir are known for being rich, lush and filled with concentrated fruit and berry flavors. Russian River Pinot Noirs are today considered some of the best domestic Pinot Noirs.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
