RATINGS

93-95Vinous / IWC

Savory herbs, rose petals, mint, sweet red berries and licorice are all woven together beautifully. The 2011 is terrific, but it is going to need considerable time.

93Burghound.com

...spicy black cherry, cassis and floral aromas that slide gracefully into rich, generous and opulent large-scaled flavors that display both excellent volume and fine phenolic maturity of the structural items...

92-94Stephen Tanzer

Red fruits, pepper, stone, spices and a pungent note of sandalwood on the nose. Intensely flavored and stylish, offering a good tight core of dark fruit flavor, enticing sweetness andserious spine.

91The Wine Advocate

...straight-laced with strict red currant and raspberry leaf scents. The palate has tannic opening although it shows a little more cohesion than the Vosne 1er Crus, while the tannins seem finer on the finish.

17.5Jancis Robinson

Rich and round. Fleshy and plump with good flesh. Great energy.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Flagey-Echezeaux, Echezeaux

Echezeaux is a 93-acre Grand Cru vineyard on the southern edge of the Cote de Nuits. It up the slope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echezeaux and is one of the largest grand crus in Burgundy. The vineyard varies in elevation from 250 to 300 meters, and the terroir includes significant clay as well as thin, rocky soil. The largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with 11.68 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret with 6.25 acres, and Emmanuel-Rouget, with 3.58 acres. Echezeaux produces red wine.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
