RATINGS

93Burghound.com

...rich, full, delicious and very complex mouth coating flavors of superb depth and length. This is very impressive juice and still holding perfectly and the '85 is easily the best vintage of the decade for Clos de Tart.

91Wine Spectator

Lots of flavor, character and silky smooth texture show off the plum, chocolate and spicy flavors along with toast and toffe nuances that run through the wine. It's got good acidity and enough tannin for aging. The flavors grow on you.

18Jancis Robinson

Very rich, intense nose. Rich, spicy fruit with some balsamic notes. Floral notes too, with firm tannins but no shortage of impressive fruit still.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Morey-St.-Denis, Clos de Tart

Clos de Tart is a Grand Cru vineyard in the Morey St.-Denis appellation of Burgundy. During the Middle Ages it was owned by Cistercian monks, but it was sold at auction after the French Revolution. In 1932 the 18.6 acre vineyard was bought by the negociant Mommessin, which today owns the entirety of the vineyard and runs it as a monopoly. Vineyards are planted to north to south, which is unusual, which is partly to help guard against erosion. The soil is stony with some clay.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
